Japanese Ninjato Swords
The Ninja is a mystical warrior that was known to be trained in multiple deadly and unorthodox arts of war like:
- assassination
- espionage
- stealth
- camouflage
- specialized weapons
- martial arts
The exact origins of the ninja remain unknown but according to history they are suspected of being masters at creating social chaos in enemy territory. Very few things are known about these mystical warriors but according to the Book Ninjutsu History and Tradition the most used of all ninja weapons is called the ninjato also known as ninjaken or shinobi katana.
These ninja swords are smaller than the traditional katana but larger than the standard wakizashi. Some historian believes that most ninja would carry their ninjato into a katana-lenght saya. This technique was used to hide the weapon and at the same time the ninja identity, but also to deceive the enemy into miscalculating how quickly the weapon could be drawn. The extra space in the scabbard could have been used to carry extra equipment.
