The rapier sword is a long blade characterized by a detailed and complex hilt which primary role is to protect the hand wielding it. Rapiers have blades that are generally broad enough to cut to some degree but they are mainly recognized for their ability as a thrusting weapon.
The blades can be sharpened on the entire length, from the middle to the tip or not at all as called “estoc”.
A typical Rapier swords would weight around one kilogram and have a relatively long and slender blade of 2.5 centimeters or less in width and one meter or more in length.
